Hupac saves 1.2 million tonnes of CO2 – our Green Deal contribution 2020

Hupac supports the European Green Deal. With our intermodal network, thousands of transport companies can carry out their transports safely and ecologically by rail – throughout Europe and as far as Russia and China.

Last year, Hupac Intermodal saved around 1.2 million tonnes of CO₂ and around 13 billion megajoules of energy compared to pure road transport. This corresponds to a reduction of 89% in CO₂ emissions and 74% in energy consumption (source Ecotransit).

Also in the current year, Hupac is committed to strengthening the network and to achieving further qualitative improvements.

The Green Deal strategy provides valuable impetus for this. The prerequisites for further significant growth in combined transport include:

  • the timely expansion of the European freight corridors to the parameters 740 m train length, profile P400, 2000 t train weight with one locomotive
  • guaranteed capacity for the targeted growth of freight traffic
  • technical and administrative harmonisation in the European area
  • fair framework conditions for road/rail competition.

Together with our customers and partners, we help to ensure that rail can take over a growing share of freight transport and thus achieve the climate targets.
