Gotthard: limitations only for few days

Starting from Sunday evening, freight traffic is expected to start again on the Gotthard line. In the meantime the Hupac trains are diverted via the Lötschberg/Simplon axis. Only the domestic connections Basel <=> Chiasso and Aarau <=> Stabio can’t be operational at present.

The authorities concerned have taken all measures in order to support rail freight traffic at best:

  • Infrastructure managers in Germany, Switzerland and Italy work together closely in order to offer the maximum capacity for international freight traffic despite the Gotthard line interruption
  • Planned track works on the Simplon axis have been postponed
  • Capacities in Domodossola II shunting station have been increased by putting additional locomotives into operation and by reinforcing shunting teams
  • International railway companies join their forces with the aim to reach the highest possible capacity
  • Customs offices in Domodossola II will take up 24-hour service if needed.

Delays may occur up to the complete processing of the residual trains, but starting from Monday 19.11.2012 the situation is expected to turn back to normality within few days.

Our customer team is at disposal round the clock for further information.
