Commitment to climate and environmental responsibility

As a pioneer in intermodal transport, Hupac actively contributes to reducing environmental impacts by shifting freights from road to rail. This modal shift is one of the most effective ways to lower greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in the logistics sector.

In addition, we work to reduce noise emissions, optimise the use of resources such as water and chemicals and promote biodiversity. Minimising waste and ensuring the safe transport of goods are also central to our environmental responsibility.

Statement on consultation

In a nutshell

1. Corridor of 4 meters - necessary measure for Alptransit
2. Interoperability on international corridor
3. 4-meter-profile has immediate impact on modal shift
4. The line of Chiasso is more important, the line of Luino is more urgent
5. Corridor performance - a prerequisite for the degression of subsidies

Conclusion: Investing in a powerful freight corridor soon pays for itselves. It allows to reduce operating subsidies (about 150 million per year). But it works out only if both the Chiasso and the Luino line is equipped with the 4-meter profile. The parameters for an efficient rail freight - 750 meter train length, train weight 2000 tons with a single locomotive, profile P400 - must be implemented corridor-wide for all Swiss transit routes, including Chiasso, Luino and Lötschberg / Simplon.
