12 August 2017: disruption of the Rhine-Alpine rail freight corridor

The Rhine valley railway has been closed in Rastatt near Karlsruhe on Saturday 12 August 2017. The reason was a drop of the tracks by half a meter, as result of technical problems during the construction of a tunnel below the rails by DB Netze. The disruption of the main European traffic axis is expected to last until 7 October. Diversion and alternative connections offered by the railways are far from enough to cover the demand of rail freight.
